Why We Bundled AI With Design — Not Sold Separately

Every other agency is selling 'AI strategy.' We decided to ship AI inside the same subscription that ships your brand work. Here's why.

When we added AI capabilities to Day of Design's offering in 2026, the obvious move would have been to sell them as a separate line of business: "AI Services, starting at $50,000."

We didn't. We bundled them into the same monthly subscription as brand and design work, and capped the AI engineering hours per tier.

A few people thought this was a mistake. The math is different, and I want to explain why we're confident it's right.

What a standalone AI offer actually is

Most agencies rolling out AI services are selling audits, strategy decks, and prototypes. These are consultancy artifacts. They produce opinions, not outcomes. The client reads them, feels informed, and doesn't ship anything.

When the prototype does get built, it gets built by someone else — usually an engineering shop the agency referred to. The handoff is where most AI initiatives die.

What a bundled AI subscription is

When AI is in the same subscription as design, three things happen:

1. The AI ships in a brand you already trust. We build you a tool after we've built you the system that governs how tools should feel. The app's tone matches the website. The email confirmations match the app. The system holds.

2. You don't face a handoff. We do the positioning work that tells us what the AI should do. We do the design work that governs how it presents. We do the engineering work that ships it. Three disciplines; one team; no translation loss.

3. Economics work because scope is clear. We cap AI hours per tier. That forces us to scope ruthlessly. You get production AI in a realistic monthly budget — not a $200K project that's really a 6-month engagement with unclear outcomes.

The test I ran in my own head

Here's the question I kept asking: would clients actually get better outcomes from two separate subscriptions — one for design, one for AI — than from one integrated subscription?

And every time, the answer was no. The integration is the value. Bundling isn't a pricing gimmick; it's how the work actually gets good.

What this means for how we choose clients

We don't work with people who want AI without caring about design. Not because we can't — because the results are worse. AI products that look and sound off-brand are the most common failure mode I see in the market right now.

If you're shopping for "just AI" — there are shops for that. We're not it. If you want AI that ships looking and sounding like your company, on a predictable monthly cost — that's us.

That's the whole pitch. No strategy deck required.
