WayDo Consulting International Inc. advises people on studying and immigrating — on making Canada the next stop. In 2021 the studio designed its logo: a symbol made from the company’s initials and a maple leaf, a condensed capital wordmark, and, in the final files, four lockups in colour, black and white.

01The symbol

A W, an O,
and a leaf at the centre.

The symbol takes the first and last letters of the name. Two parallel strokes and a small triangle build the W; an apricot ring is the O. A red maple leaf is pinned to the ring’s upper edge, and its stem runs all the way to the centre — a destination pinned on a map.

Construction drawing: both strokes lean at 65°, the ring is exactly as tall as the W, and the leaf’s stem ends at the ring’s centre

65°

Both strokes of the W lean at the same angle, parallel; the third stroke is reduced to a small triangle, which keeps the letter light.

Ø = h

The ring is exactly as tall as the W, so the two letters share one baseline and one top line and read as a single word.

Centre

The leaf’s stem ends exactly at the centre of the ring: the maple leaf says Canada, the ring says where you are going.

02Lockups

One name,
four ways to sign it.

The name is set in Oswald Bold capitals with open letterspacing, in charcoal rather than black so it sits quietly beside the colour. Stacked and horizontal versions each come with and without the “International Inc.” line — the full name for formal documents, the short one where space is tight.

03Colour

Bright at first,
then settled.

The working file opens with a bright turquoise and orange. The final file deepens the teal, softens the orange to apricot and keeps the maple red. Black and white versions carry the mark where colour can’t go — the leaf is cut clear of the ring, so it still reads in one colour.

The symbol, the four lockups and the colours are taken from the studio’s final artwork files (September 2021) and shown as the original vectors. The construction drawing, the pattern study redrawn from the final symbol and the layout of this page were made for the case; the first-pass colours are read from the working file’s preview and are approximate. The stock office photograph in the working file is not shown.
