Purrfect is a café at the front and a cat room at the back, in Thornhill, Ontario — with cat supplies on the shelves and rescue and adoption besides. Its mark is a cat sitting in a cup, a whale swimming round the side. From that cat we made the whole drinks menu and the poster on the door: seven groups, twenty-eight drinks, and cats keeping them company.

01The mark
A cat in a cup,
a whale on the side.
Eyes shut, paws on the rim; on the pink cup a blue whale flicks up a splash. The Chinese name, 圆滚滚 — round and plump — is how a well-fed cat sits. The colours come straight from the mark: the cat’s blue, the cup’s pink, cream, and a deep ink-blue for type.

02The menu
Twenty-eight drinks,
one easy read.
The original boxed every group in a cyan outline, box against box, with names lettered into the pictures. Re-set, the outlines go: seven groups sit on pale pink, blue and cream, English first with the Chinese beside it, and milk swaps, toppings, sugar and ice gather in the last panel. Prices are left off here.

03The cast
Every drink
gets its own cat.
The mango tea’s cat hugs a mango, the Hokkaido latte’s brings a kitten, the coconut foam’s has fallen asleep in the shell. The illustrations were generated with AI image tools, and came with drink names lettered in — a few misspelled. We cut the lettering, set the names in type, and chose and paired the cats group by group.

Before the door opens,

The tall strip on the door once held a QR code, a web address, a phone number and a photograph. Re-set, it keeps what matters: this is a café and a cat room; there are desserts and cat supplies, rescue and adoption; book the cat room online.
