MRD Financial is a mortgage brokerage in Markham, Ontario, that also offers financial planning. In 2019 we designed its mark and slogan. For the next four years the studio stayed on: cards, posters and a trade-show backdrop, the marks for two insurance companies the group added in 2022, and the 2023 roll-ups and client birthday cards.

01The mark · 2019
M and R run together;
the D is a copper arc.
In 2019 MRD Financial asked us for a mark. M and R run together into one shape; the D drops its upright and becomes a copper arc, exactly as thick as the letters’ stems. Around it we set stacked and horizontal lockups with 决胜金融 and FINANCIAL, and how each sits on light, dark and navy grounds.

02The line
The name borrows
from an old saying.
The Chinese name takes 决胜, “winning the day,” from an old line about a strategist who plans inside the tent and wins a thousand li away. The slogan turns the whole line toward the client — we do the planning, you make the call — with an English version beside it. Mark and slogan were fixed as one lockup for card backs and print.

The cards came in landscape and portrait. The front carries a name and contact details (not shown here); the back is all navy, with the reversed mark and the slogan in copper.
04The group · 2022
One mark,
three companies.
In 2022 the group added two insurance companies, 智胜财富 Insurance Service Inc. and 鼎胜财险 General Insurance Inc. All three share the MRD mark: a four-character Chinese name in the same spacing, the full English name in small copper serif capitals, each in horizontal, stacked and round versions. The posters, roll-ups and client cards of the years that followed kept the same mark.
