Li Li Professional Corporation practises in North York, Toronto — real estate, immigration, family law and estates. The name holds two “Li”s, so we stood them up as columns, with a cornice above and a base below: a portico. The steadiness a law firm needs grows out of its own letters, with no scales or gavel required.

01The mark
Letters that are
also architecture.
The two Ls are the shafts, each i standing in the crook of its own L. Two bars above make the cornice and two below the base, the inner bar stepped in like a stone moulding. Mirrored top and bottom, the mark stands square — and at the corner of a card or the size of an icon, the portico still reads.

02Colour
Navy for the ground,
gold for the line.
The original file sets the mark eight ways across four colours: navy, gold, black and white. Navy leads; gold appears only where it counts — the mark, the two fine rules on the card, the name on the back. Black and white are there for anything printed in one colour.

03Lockups
Two languages
on one line.
The English name is set in serif capitals, CORPORATION in widely spaced sans, the Chinese name in Song; the three lines share one measure on the portico’s axis. The horizontal version is for wide formats; the stacked one fronts the card.
Re-set from the original files — Times New Roman and Arial for the English, Song for the Chinese — with each line spaced to the same width and everything outlined, so no printer or sign shop can lose a font.
04The card
A quiet front,
a back that breaks the edge.
The front carries only the stacked lockup and two gold rules on full navy. The back turns white: the lawyer’s name in gold serif with the practice title beneath, and the portico enlarged to the card’s full height, bleeding off the edge so a single Li shows.
