Gina Zheng sells homes in Ontario under a name people remember: 地产战斗机, the real-estate fighter jet. In 2021 she asked us to make it a logo — bilingual, in gold and dark grey. We drew the mark and set it on her For Sale and Open House signs, and in 2023 carried it onto her business cards.

01The mark

A fighter jet
flies out of the G.

The G is set large in a high-contrast serif. A fighter jet comes at you head-on out of its open side, and its wings run straight past both edges of the letter, becoming the line the whole mark is built on. INA follows in the same serif, a size smaller, so it still reads GINA. Beside it, the Chinese name, the English name and REAL ESTATE stack into one block.

  1. Wing line: the wings run past the letters and carry the mark
  2. The G: a serif drawn close to a circle

02Other directions

Eight other ideas,
and then the G.

The same 2021 presentation showed eight directions built on her initials, GZ: jets streaking over the letters, cutting through them, sitting on top of them. They are shown here as drawn. The one that went forward kept her first name whole.

  1. Alternative 1: A gold jet streaking over the words GZ FIGHTER JET

  2. Alternative 2: A jet beside a single line of GZ FIGHTER JET
    02
  3. Alternative 3: A jet cutting through a bold GZ
    03
  4. Alternative 4: A jet emerging from GZ, with FIGHTER JET beside it
    04
  5. Alternative 5: A navy GZ whose Z becomes a climbing jet
    05
  6. Alternative 6: A head-on jet across a black GZ
    06
  7. Alternative 7: A side-on jet over GZ
    07
  8. Alternative 8: A jet seen from above against a circle

03Lockups & colour

Across a sign,
or stacked in a square.

Two arrangements: horizontal for signs and the top of a card, stacked for square and tall spaces. The colours follow her brief — a dark grey close to black, a soft gold, and a mid grey for small print — with screen and press values for each.

04Signs

On a front lawn,
read from across the street.

The For Sale sign is the brand at full size: the logo across the top, FOR SALE in gold, her name in white, and the phone number on a gold bar that runs off the edge — the one line a passer-by needs. A set of Open House panels followed the same layout with her portrait, and is not shown here.

05Business cards

Two sides,
one dark, one light.

In 2023 the mark moved onto her business cards. The front is the stacked logo on dark grey; the back opens with the horizontal logo on a dark band and leaves the rest to her name and details, GINA in bold and ZHENG in light gold. Four versions were drawn along the way; this is the final one.
