Lava Rice Noodle — 真三鲜米线 — serves Sichuan–Chongqing rice noodles in North York, Toronto. The mark came with the restaurant: chopsticks lift noodles from a bowl whose rim turns into a chili. We left it as it is and worked outward from it — re-setting the bilingual menu so guests choose the broth first and the bowl second, then carrying the mark’s red, cream and ink into posters and pieces for the table.

01The mark

Chopsticks, noodles,
and one chili.

The mark is the restaurant’s own and we didn’t redraw a stroke of it: the name in brush script, a bowl, noodles drawn as nested arcs, a rim that turns into a chili. It arrived as a single JPEG on red, so we cleaned it into a transparent mark that prints in red, cream or ink, and took the palette from it.

02The broths

Choose the broth,
then the bowl.

The original menu squeezed the seven broths into one line of small print, found only after thirteen dishes. The new menu turns that round: the broth is step one, in a column of its own, and the noodles are step two. You read the menu in the order you order.

  2. 02经典泡椒Pickled chili
  3. 03藤椒Green Sichuan pepper
  4. 04苗家酸汤Miao sour soup
  5. 05老坛酸菜Pickled mustard greens
  6. 06药膳滋补Herbal broth
  7. 07浓汤番茄Rich tomato

03The menu

Thirty-three dishes,
two clear pages.

Page one is only noodles; page two is rice combos, snacks and braised dishes, and drinks. The Chinese name leads, the English sits beneath it, and every price lines up on one edge; hairlines separate the dishes and red is kept for wayfinding. All thirty-three Chinese names and prices are exactly as they were.

Several English names on the original didn’t match the dish. We checked each against the Chinese and added nothing the menu didn’t say.

04Posters

Numbing, hot,
and fresh.

Three posters, one character each, each tied to something on the menu: 麻, numbing, is the green Sichuan pepper broth; 辣, hot, the Sichuan hot-pot broth; 鲜, fresh, the Sanxian noodles the restaurant is named for. Each takes one ground from the palette.

The mark was supplied by the restaurant. Three food pictures it also supplied have no recorded source and may be stock or AI-generated, so they are not shown. The menu is a 2026 portfolio re-setting: all 33 Chinese names and prices follow the original menu, the English was edited against the Chinese, and it is not the restaurant’s current menu. The posters and chopstick sleeve are concepts and were not printed. The address and the personal WeChat QR code on the original menu are left out.
